I had the good fortune to serve as director of the Hawaii chapter of Common Cause during this period. At that time, the organization had between 1,500 and 2,000 members in Hawaii and enjoyed widespspread public support.

I've started scanning newspaper clippings about Common Cause that appeared in local newspapers during those years, although the job isn't finished yet. These clippings offer a quick tour of Hawaii politics during the period.

The first year, 1983, is split into two parts, each about 2 MB, while 1984 is in one huge 4 MB file. The 1986 file is larger, almost 8 MB. So take care if you've got a slow Internet connection.
